King Cobra UFi Irons and Baffler DWS, Pro Models
< Continued from page 1
King Cobra UFi Irons In the news release announcing Cobra's new irons, Jeff Harmet, president of Cobra Golf and Titleist Clubs, is quoted saying that the goal with the UFi irons was to "achieve the highest level of forgiveness and playability at any cost."
So you know that these are ultra-game-improvements irons. And that they are going to cost.
The "UF" in the King Cobra UFi Irons stands for "ultimate forgiveness." The company describes the construction of these irons thusly: "Designed by integrating multiple materials, these irons feature an exclusive metal matrix face insert, patented polymer topline, high density tungsten heel-toe weighting and a steel alloy body."
The face insert and topline save weight in those positions, which the tungsten inserts then reposition to other locations around the clubhead. Cobra says the result is the highest MOI and lowest center of gravity in any iron the company has produced up to this set.
The irons also have wide soles and a back cavity plate with urethane insert to dampen vibration and soften the feel at impact.
The stock shafts are Graphite Design YS-55+ or YS-60+, or Nippon NS 900 XH. Sets are available with graphite or steel shafts, 4-GW, and began shipping Nov. 1, 2007. MSRP is $1,240 with graphite shafts; $1,125 with steel shafts.
King Cobra Baffler
The original Baffler, when it appeared in 1975, was the first utility metal to hit the golf marketplace. In the nearly 30 years since then, the Baffler brand had continued to be a strong seller for Cobra.
Now the company is ready with the 2008 King Cobra Baffler DWS and Baffler Pro models.
The new Baffler DWS has a higher MOI and a lower, deeper center of gravity than the previous DWS model, focusing on increasing forgiveness as well as launch angle and carry.
The new Baffler Pro has a smaller head and Tour-preferred setup, making it the choice of the two for many lower-handicappers who prefer Tour-inspired designs.
Both Baffler models began shipping on Nov. 1, 2007. The DWS model comes with Aldila VS Proto HL shaft or Nippon N.S. Pro 950 shaft, and has an MSRP of $175 with graphite shaft or $150 with steel shaft. The stock shaft on the Pro model is the Premium Fujikura Speeder Baffler Pro, and MSRP is $220 with graphite shaft or $185 with steel shaft.
