"The Drinky Crow Show
'The Drinky Crow Show':
Based on Tony Millionaire's award-wining comic-strip Maakies, The Drinky Crow Show is an original series which debuted on Adult Swim on November 23, 2008. From executive producers Tony Millionaire and Eric Kaplan, The Drinky Crow Show originally aired in May 2007 as part of Adult Swim's "Night of 1,000 Pilots." The theme song is performed by They Might Be Giants.
Premise:
The Drinky Crow Show, an animated comedy, stars Drinky, a suicidal crow with a drinking problem, and Gabby, a depraved monkey.
Both are crew members aboard the SS Maakies, and together they go on a number of misadventures usually involving drunkenness, violence, and mayhem.
Characters:
Dino Stamatopolous (Moral Orel) lends his voice to Drinky Crow, with David Herman (King of the Hill) as Uncle Gabby and Captain, and Becky Thyre as the Captain's Daughter.
Creators:
Tony Millionaire is an award-winning cartoonist, illustrator and author who is perhaps best known for his popular weekly comic strip, Maakies, which is the basis for the new Adult Swim original series The Drinky Crow Show. Millionaire's comics have won the prestigious Eisner Award presented at Comic-Con in San Diego. Maakies has won the Harvey Award twice in 2004 and once in 2006. His work was also granted the noble Ignatz Award in 2006.
Eric Kaplan is a writer from Brooklyn, New York. He has written and produced for popular comedies, such as The Flight of the Conchords and Futurama.
My Two Cents:
The Drinky Crow Show has beautiful art and a witty humor, but it doesn't translate well from comic-strip to animation.
