Tonight I'm sharing some Halloween safety tips for trick or treating. If you have younger aged children, toddler to about 6 years old, you really are going to want to go out with them. It really isn't very safe even to send them out with an older sibling. There¡¯s just too many things that can go wrong on Halloween night and they can get away from an older child, who can also become distracted very easily. They can get into the street, and it's just too dangerous of a night for that sort of situation. You're also going to want to stay very close to your toddler. Whenever they go up the stairs to collect their candy, you're going to want to stay within an arm's reach, because when they turn around to come back down, they can trip very easily and fall and hurt themselves. Also, be sure that you're very aware of their costume. They are not going to want to be wearing anything that they can trip over or any costume that isn't flame retardant. There are too many open flames on Halloween night. Also, make sure that there aren't any sharp objects that they can hurt themselves on. If you have an older child that can run ahead a few houses, make sure that you do sort of set a certain amount of houses that they can get ahead of you. Then they just need to stop and wait for you. If they find themselves suddenly out of your sight, just instruct them to stay put, that you are coming right behind them, and that might help avoid any sense of panic if your child doesn't suddenly see you. There can be a lot of people out on the street at the same time in costumes. As much fun as kids like to have on Halloween, a younger child can become very easily scared on a night like that. Be sure that you stay close within an arm's reach of a toddler and a few houses away from your older child.
