Imagine never ever living in a quiet world, always having the constant ringing, buzzing, rushing or clicking sounds going on in your world, never giving you a moment's peace or allowing you to rest peacefully.
This is the world that many people with tinnitus live in and for most of them the thought that the tinnitus may never go away is one they almost cannot bear.
Sadly most of these people also do not realize that such thoughts and feeling can make the tinnitus even worse, opening up a vicious cycle where tinnitus and stress continue to cycle in an ever increasing intensity.
Doctors have long known about the link between tinnitus and stress, and have counseled their patients to manage the stress in their life as one treatment for their tinnitus.
The question that many people must ask however is the tinnitus caused by the stress and if so why and how do the ongoing stresses caused by this condition affect the ringing in their ears.
Understanding Stress Stress is a response to a new, different or difficult situation, a perfectly normal reaction you may find that you are affected by stress when you least expect it, such as when are buying a new home or getting married.
The source of the stress matters less than the duration of the stress and the overall affect that it has on the body.
Stress causes changes to many of your bodily systems affecting the adrenaline system, the cardiac system, causing a rise in blood pressure, headaches and more.
It is easy to see how stress could in fact initiate the onset of tinnitus, keeping in mind however that there are any number of conditions than can compound both the stress and the tinnitus, making it impossible to understand which came first the tinnitus or stress.
Since stress will attack the parts of the body that are already compromised it is possible to think that the conditions for tinnitus were already present and stress was the catalyst that set the condition in motion.
How does Stress Continue to Affect my Tinnitus? If you are already affected by tinnitus it is important to understand that stress will most definitely make the problem worse.
Most tinnitus sufferers report that prolonged stress can double or triple the level of noise they hear.
What is worse; because the body perceives tinnitus as a threat, the resultant depression, anxiety and lack of sleep this condition can cause will only increase the stress, which in turn will increase the level of the ringing in your ears.
A vicious cycle, it is only by understanding and accepting this cycle and learning to break it that you will find relief for your symptoms.
