Greeting Your Followers on Twitter

103 12
There is a decision that needs to be made on how to greet your followers on Twitter.
For a social user, it's an easy decision.
For the online business person, it's a conundrum.
As an internet entrepreneur, here is how I made that call.
First of all, I use Twitter for one reason and one reason only...
to promote my business.
That does not override the importance of being courteous.
After all, if I tick someone off, they are either going to unfollow me or disregard any input I give, however valuable that input might be.
I have set up an automatic reply system to any tweet that follows me.
(You can do that at Tweetlater.
com) Those replies are generic and do not refer to my business.
Then the ball is in their court as to whether to be simply social or to respond as another online business person.
Either way, the relationship has started out on a positive note.
Another decision you have to make is how to respond to your direct messages.
I have determined a very simple guideline for my response to these tweets.
If their DM is strictly social, my response is strictly social.
If they promote their business, I promote my business.
The fun one is the mix of social and business.
Guess how I respond to that one.
Right, I also mix social and business.
The latter is actually my favorite kind of tweet.
It allows not only for business but for that business to be based on an amiable relationship.
Twitter is an amazing tool for the online business person.
Additionally, it has had the surprising benefit of connecting me with some interesting and enjoyable people from all over the world.
With some, we connect because of being like-minded.
With others, I have been challenged to think outside the confines of my own mental thinking.
For example, I am a conservative Christian and I was put to the test when a Goth started following me.
But you know what, she is a delightful person (she may not like that description of herself) and I am thankful I did not delete her.
It would have been my loss.
Certainly, we each have to make our own decisions in how to appropriately use Twitter for our own unique needs.
Hopefully, sharing my conclusions will help those who have been in the valley of decision concerning their personal etiquette on Twitter.
With that being said, here's to your fun, successful, and prosperous Tweets!
