How to Know When to File for State Extended Unemployment in Georgia
- 1). Use all of your regular unemployment benefits and all four tiers of the federal emergency unemployment compensation (EUC), which are the federal extended unemployment benefits. State extended benefits are only available in Georgia once you have exhausted all other benefit options.
- 2). Check your mail regularly once you use up all of your available benefits. The Georgia Department of Labor mails out eligibility letters to claimants who may qualify for state extended benefits. Wait until you receive this letter before moving forward as it contains detailed information on the state extended benefits application process.
- 3). Apply for your state extended benefits on the Georgia Department of Labor website (see Resources) by Dec. 31, 2011, which is the last day you can file. As your letter will tell you, you can only file for state extended benefits online. To apply, you need your bank account details for the depositing of your benefits and employer information if you have worked between the end of your EUC benefits and your application for state extended benefits.
