Netherlands Shock Favoured Brazilians

The Netherlands progressed to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup on Friday as they came from behind to stun tournament heavyweights Brazil in Port Elizabeth.
Out of the 5 South American sides that started this competition Brazil were considered the team most likely to win the tournament.
However they now become the 2nd team out of the five to crash out.
The game though, started brightly for the Samba Stars when after 10 minutes Felipe Melo had possession in the centre circle.
He managed to split the Dutch defense straight through the middle to find Santos striker Robinho, who tucked the ball into the net from the edge of the area.
This was particularly bad luck for the Dutch, who had to change their starting back four close at short notice when Joris Mathijsen picked up an injury in the warm up.
They tried to respond to this set back quickly, however Kuyt could only force a good save from Julio Cesar at the near post.
The Brazilian back line was holding strong however, and apart from a Wesley Sneijder free kick that was saved easily by Cesar, the Dutch couldn't get past Juan and his team mates.
At the other end Maarten Stekelenburg had to keep Holland in the game and produced a couple of good saves during the remaining time in the half.
He palmed over Kaka's curling effort before parrying Maicon's powerful effort after a Dani Alves pass found Maicon on the overlap similar to Jarzinho's memorable 1970 goal.
Brazil seemed to be in control of the game, however that changed after the break when they gifted the Netherlands an equalizer.
Sneijder fired in a cross from the right flank after a short free-kick and Felipe Melo, who created the first goal, found himself at fault as he collided with Cesar in the air as both tried to clear the ball.
Neither succeeded and the ball flicked off Melo's head and dropped into the net.
Brazil weren't deterred by this and nearly regained their lead when Ooijer failed to clear properly leaving Kaka with a great opportunity to score.
He could only slice the ball wide though and missed narrowly when a player of his class should've scored.
He and his team were made to rue this miss after 68 minutes when the Netherlands completed their comeback from a corner.
Dirk Kuyt flicked on Robben's corner across the 6 yard box where Sneijder pounced and headed the ball into the net, while the Brazilian defence stood like statues.
Brazil were now chasing the game and their task was made much harder 5 minutes later when Felipe Melo was sent off for stamping on Robben after conceding a free kick.
Despite this however, they carried on attacking, the closest they got to scoring being several Maicon corners that were all dealt with by the Dutch, who now go onto face Uruguay in the semi-finals.
Further drama was created after the final whistle when Brazil coach Dunga announced that he would be resigning after taking full responsibility for the defeat.
He told the press that he was appointed in 2006 knowing that he would only be in the hot seat for 4 years and said he would honour that.
