The Rangers won the Stanley Cup in their second year, despite being forced to play the entire final series on the road because the circus had taken over Madison Square Garden.

But championships would prove rare, and the Stanley Cup drought that began in 1940 grew to legendary status as the years went by.

The wait finally ended in 1994, when captain Mark Messier raised the Cup after the Rangers defeated Vancouver in an epic seven-game series.

Although the Rangers are one of the highest-spending teams of the NHL's modern era, they have achieved little success in the years since the 1994 title.
