    • 1). Purchase a stringing machine. In general, a good quality machine will cost $500 to $1,000. Once purchased, make sure you understand how to operate the machine.

    • 2). Use clippers to cut out the old string if the racket was previously strung. Take the racket and mount it on the stringing machine. Lock the racket frame in place according to the machine instructions. Set the tension: the Babolat Pure Drive racket has a tension range of 55 to 62 lbs.

    • 3). Measure 20 feet of string. Start stringing the main strings by taking the ends and threading them through the two center grommet holes at the throat of the racket. Thread the strings up to the corresponding center grommet holes at the top of the racket head. Using one clamp that came with the machine, clamp one string near the throat of the racket and pull the other string with the machine. Clamp the string that was just pulled with the second clamp provided by the machine. Pull and tension the other string and clamp it off.

    • 4). Continue threading, pulling and clamping one main string at a time, alternating from one half of the racket head to the other. For a Babolat Pure Drive racket, you will skip the eighth grommet hole, which is off-center at the top and throat of the frame. There will be a total of 16 main strings. Thread each end of the string through the seventh grommet hole on each side of center at the top of the racket head and tie a knot around the main string. Clip any excess string.

    • 5). Start the cross strings at the top of the racket head with the remaining string. The first cross string will be at the eighth grommet hole off-center. You will need to have a starting knot for this string at either the sixth or ninth off-center grommet hole (whichever is larger). Weave the strings under and over across the string bed to the corresponding grommet hole, pull or tension each string and then clamp. Repeat this all the way down to the throat of the racket, not skipping any holes. The last cross will be at the eighth hole off-center at the throat of the racket. Thread the end of the string through the 10th hole off-center at the throat of the racket and tie a knot around the main string. Clip any excess string.
