The 1974 Stanley Cup Playoffs featured the top 8 teams in the NHL. There were 4 teams representing the East Division and 4 more teams representing the West Division.

The East Division was represented by the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins were the top team in the East division with a record of 52-17-9 on the year. The Canadiens were runners up at 45-24-9. The Rangers were the third best team at 40-24-14 and the Maple Leafs were the last team in the playoffs for the East Division with a record of 35-27-16.

The West Division was dominated by the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers finished with a 50-16-12 record on the year. The Chicago Black Hawks were second in the division with a record of 41-14-23 on the year. The Los Angeles Kings played well enough to finish 3rd in the division with a 33-33-12 record. The Atlanta Flames were the 4th best team in the division with a sub .500 record of 30-34-14.

The Bruins and the Maple Leafs were slated to square off in the first round of the playoffs. This was not much of a match as the Bruins were the far dominant team. The Maple Leafs were unable to steal a single game during the series and the Bruins came out on top with a 4-0 series victory.

The Black Hawks and the Kings played in the first round as well. The Los Angeles Kings were definitely not on the same level as the Black Hawks and they struggled to compete. While they were not swept, they only managed to win 1 game and they were eliminated in 5 games.

The Flyers and the Flames played in the first round in the bottom half of the bracket. The Flames were sub .500 on the year and they were not able to compete with the Flyers. The Flyers easily took the series in 4 games for the sweep.

The last matchup of the first round was between the Rangers and the Canadiens. The Rangers were the underdogs in this matchup, but they played great and managed to control the series. The Canadiens were only able to win two games in the series as the Rangers won the series 4 games to 2.

The second round of the playoffs featured the Bruins against the Black Hawks and the Flyers against the Rangers. The Rangers continued to play strong and really gave the Flyers a run for their money in this series. The series was forced to 7 games before the Flyers came out on top. The Flyers would advance to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The Black Hawks were able to steal 2 games in the series against the Bruins, but it was clear that the Bruins were the top best team in the series. The Bruins won the series 4 games to 2 and would square off against the Flyers for the Stanley Cup.

Despite enduring a taxing series against the Rangers, the Flyers were ready to roll against the Bruins and managed to take home the series victory in 6 games to become the 1974 Stanley Cup Champions.
