How to Remove Leaves From a Swimming Pool
- 1). Get a skimmer or leaf rake for your swimming pool, depending on where the leaves are. Both of these tools are net-like devices that can be found at pool supply retailers. The main difference is that a skimmer is generally used for items on the pool's surface, while a leaf rake is made to scoop up items from the pool's bottom.
- 2). Pull any large pieces of leaves from the pool by hand. If some of the leaves are attached to branches or limbs, for instance, these items may damage the netting of the skimmer or leaf rake.
- 3). Skim the smaller leaves and leaf debris from the pool with the skimmer or leaf rake. If using a skimmer, stand at the edge of the pool and drag the skimmer slowly through the water, with half of the skimmer net down in the water and half above the water. When using a leaf rake, get down into the pool and pull the leaf rake over the bottom of the pool as you would a regular rake.
- 4). Empty the contents of the skimmer or leaf rake whenever the net gets full. Place wet leaves into a plastic bag for disposal. Do not just dump them outside the pool, where the moisture may lead to mildew or mold around the pool area.
