Do you remember what it was like growing up in the nineties? People still carried around Discmans and pagers.
Pokemon became a hit and Pikachu gave people seizures.
The internet had just kicked off, soon to become the world wide phenomenon.
People would do the Macarena everywhere and the Spice Girls were the next big thing.
HDTV didn't even exist.
Nor did anyone even consider high definition vs analog.
It seems like eons ago, doesn't it? But, in all actuality, the nineties weren't so long ago.
Do you remember what shows you were watching? Back then, shows actually had scripts and actors rather than every day citizens starring in works of fiction.
There was none of this reality business in sight.
Here's a little trip down memory lane: a list of the nineties greatest TV hits.
So, if you're feeling nostalgic, just turn on the satellite TV and scan for reruns.
Seinfeld Who can forget the show about nothing? Jerry Seinfeld and his band of three-Elaine, George and of course, Kramer, are staples of 90's comedy.
In fact, much of the show's humor is still relevant today.
The New York based comedy aired for eight years (1990-1998).
In that time, it became a huge hit.
Beyond huge, even.
We watched and hung on to their every word as they complained about everything from toes for thumbs to killer BO.
We were watching when George finally got a real job with a sports team and Elaine created the urban sombrero; we stayed tuned when Jerry got married and divorced, and when Kramer, well, did something Kramerish.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Buffy was a regular teenage girl who happened to have a gift for slaying.
Vampires that is.
This show became a cult hit in the late 90's.
It was a show about teen anxieties mixed with monsters straight out of hell.
The series was rife with pop cultural references.
Many of the episodes were metaphors for growing up, and this appealed to fans.
Besides that, there's lots of action, with vampires and other demons getting their asses kicked by the formidable female lead, Buffy Sommers.
Beverly Hills 90210 This show was basically a nighttime soap opera revolving around the lives of spoiled rich kids living in Beverly Hills.
Think the OC, but without so much sand.
90210 was engaging.
No matter how much you didn't want to watch, you couldn't help yourself.
Everyone likes to watch rich people having problems, especially if they are the same problems everyone else has.
X Files Here's another show that dealt with the supernatural.
The X Files was smart.
It was hip.
It had monsters and aliens.
The two leads, Mulder and Scully were constantly arguing about the existence of aliens, and yet there was never a hint of romance.
We want to believe.
Friends A group of friends of varying economic income hang out in a New York coffee shop.
They discuss their love lives, their financial woes, and they fall in love.
Some get married, to each other no less, while others have their hearts broken.
They always can fall back on a frothy cappuccino, however.
Yes, we all watched Friends.
It was the thing to do.
Who can forget Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, Ross, and Rachel? Remember, if you're feeling a little nostalgic for the great 90's, simply flip through your satellite tv channels-there are always reruns.
Always.
