The Importance of Quality Written Materials to Small Businesses

If you're like many small business owners, you're operating on a small budget.
You probably try and handle your business communications, marketing materials and other written works in house, which is fine if your writing style, content and structure is on par.
The problem comes in when it's not.
Taking chances with the words you use to promote, identify and market your brand is one of the easiest ways I know of to get a reputation for shoddy work, before a potential client even sees your actual products and services! But you're not a writer you say! How do you get quality written materials as a small business owner? One of the best ways I know of (and I'm in the business) is to hire a freelance writer to tackle specific projects, like your company profile, brochures, catalogues and other marketing items.
This eliminates the need to pay a professional a salary, as you will be billed per hour, word or project, for work delivered, instead of worrying about a salary.
Most small business owners never consider this option, or it just never occurs to them, but consider this - your marketing materials, whether printed or electronic, often precede even your sales team.
If you get that wrong, you've already made the wrong first impression! A professional writer will also be able to advise you on other ways to market your business, such as blogging, press releases and online articles, which can increase your company's exposure enormously! So consider - by saving money in the short term, writing your own business related materials, you may be costing yourself a fortune in the long run!
