    • 1). Lay the V-neck, spaghetti strap tank top on a clean, flat surface. Lay a ruler just below the bottom of the "V" and draw a line across the shirt. Cut across the shirt at this line. You can discard the bottom section of the shirt or save it for another project. Cut off the straps from the remainder of the shirt.

    • 2). Pinch together the fabric at the bottom point of the "V" and sew a few stitches through the pinched area to keep the shape.

    • 3). Measure the perimeter of the bottom, cut section of the shirt. Cut a piece of 1 1/2-inch-wide stretchy lace ribbon to this length. Fold the ribbon in half lengthwise and slide the bottom of the shirt in between the layers of the lace ribbon. Sew the lace to the shirt with a straight stitch. This is the bottom of the garter belt

    • 4). Measure around the opposite end of the shirt and cut a piece of the stretchy lace to this length. Fold it in half lengthwise and slide the shirt fabric in between the lace layers. Sew it in place with a straight stitch. This is the top of the garter belt.

    • 5). Sew a small lace ribbon over top of the pinched section of the garter belt. Sew a ribbon over top of each of the opposite points of the "V." The points make a triangular shape on either side of the "V."

    • 6). Sew the plain end of one garter belt clip to the underside of one of the points on the front of the garter belt. Sew the plain end of another garter belt clip to the underside of the other point.

    • 7). Flip over the garter belt and make a small mark on the back of it where the clips are attached. Sew the plain ends of two more garter belt clips to the back of the belt over top of these marks.
