Memphis? GLBT film festival, OutFlix, will be held in August this year at the Peabody Place Muvico theater. Since its beginnings in 1997 (when the festival was called Twinkie Museum), the festival has recognized and honored films that were by, for, and of interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.

?We've worked hard to secure films with a broad range of topics: lesbian issues, coming out stories, transgender issues, ethnic minorities, age-related issues, historical reviews, and others,? says OutFlix director, Will Batts.

A program of the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center, OutFlix will be held over six nights from August 5th-10th and will start with a kick-off party on August 4th at the David Mah Art Studio. Attendance for the festival is anticipated to be at least 800, double what it was in 2005.

There are six honors of distinction given to films during the festival. Those distinctions are: Audience Favorite for feature film, documentary, and short film; and Jury Favorite for feature film, documentary, and short film. The 2005 winners included ?Gaydar,? ?We Are Dad,? and ?Freedom to Marry.?
