    • 1). Spread the fabric on a flat work surface. Use a T-shirt with a loose yet comfortable fit on your child as a pattern for your sleep gown. Place the T-shirt on top of the fabric and smooth out any wrinkles.

    • 2). Use your fabric marker to draw around the T-shirt, leaving 1 inch of space between the drawn lines and the parameters of the shirt. Avoid getting ink on your model T-shirt. Do not draw a line across the bottom of the T-shirt.

    • 3). Move the model T-shirt to a new location on the fabric and repeat so that you have drawn two identical outlines. Remove the T-shirt and extend the bottoms of the outlines to the desired length of your gown.

    • 4). Cut out the outlines. Align them so that the colorful sides of the fabric that you wish to be visible are on the inside. Trim the edges of the outlines so that they are exactly the same size.

    • 5). Sew the two pieces of fabric together. Leave the bottom open, as well as space for arm and neck holes that match the size of those on your model-T-shirt.

    • 6). Fold 1/2-inch section of fabric back along the bottom edge of the gown and sew it in place to create a hem. Repeat this process with the fabric surrounding the arm and neck holes. Turn the sleep gown right-side out and snip off any loose strings.
