At the DiMera mansion, John reads the newspaper on the sofa as Ava raves how incredible last night amd this morning was. She assures him that she’ll get out of his hair after breakfast, since she has some things to do. She asks him what’s so interesting in the paper that he’s reading. “Article on Paul Hollingsworth. They found his jacket in the river. The police are dragging it and hope to find his body.

Too bad it’s a waste of time,” John reveals. The doorbell rings and Marlena shows up in the living room with Rolf apologizing. She overhears and asks John how he knows that it’s a waste of time. John wonders if she’s there on business with the Salem P.D. or if her visit is personal. “Forgive me, John. I didn’t mean to intrude on your private time,” she quips. John tells Blondie that she’s always welcome there. “I mean after all, you are my wife,” he affirms. “Really? Because you don’t act like it,” she points out. “And you neveracted like it,” he counters. Ava proceeds to head upstairs, but E.J. arrives and needs to have a chat with her.

Ava quietly insists to E.J. that she’s going to see somebody who might be able to help her. E.J. asks who would that be. Ava suggests they discuss it later, since Marlena works for the other side. She kisses John on the cheek and thanks him for last night and this morning, to Marlena’s chagrin. E.J. sits down at John’s desk as Marlena notes to John how he and Ava have gotten “mighty friendly.” John states that it’s nice to be with somebody who appreciates him for who he is and isn’t constantly trying to change him into someone who doesn’t exist anymore.

“Does it occur to you that this is infidelity?” she asks. John supposes she has grounds for divorce. Marlena asks if that’s what he wants. John suggests that perhaps it’s best, since he can’t give her what she wants. Marlena walks out into the foyer and insists she needs to talk to Rolf. Rolf assumes it’s about the disk again. Marlena tries to persuade him to repair the disk, reminding him that he’ll get immunity. Rolf claims once again that there’s nothing he can do. Marlena reminds Rolf that if John gets his memory back, he’s going to jail anyway, and she can offer him some protection. She pleads her case to Rolf and desponds how she’s losing John and he’s falling in love with somebody else.

Back in the living room, E.J. assumes that John will be needing a divorce lawyer. John insists that Marlena needs to move on with her own life. “Well, you’ve certainly have managed to do that,” notes E.J. John claims he didn’t have much of a choice and can’t even imagine being his old persona. E.J. believes it’s important to be true to oneself. John insists that E.J. needs to prove his loyalty. E.J. affirms that he wants his life back and is willing to work for John if that’s what it takes. They hear the doorbell ring and Judge Fitzpatrick comes by to thank John for his incredibly generous donation. E.J. wants to talk to her about Ava. The judge doesn’t know what she can do to help, surmising that Ava’s going to go to trial in Ireland. John listens nearby as E.J. announces that he’s going to petition to stop the extradition, hinting that his request isn’t too unreasonable.

After the judge leaves, E.J. believes it went pretty well, since they have the judge in their pockets. He brings up some challenging new evidence that has come to light in John’s case, surmising that Paul has now met with a most unfortunate accident. Rolf then announces that Morgan is there to see John. Morgan demands to know what he did with her father. E.J. attempts to calm a furious Morgan down, but the feisty southern belle continues to hurl accusations at John and urges him to admit that he killed her father in cold blood. Rolf then announces “Mr. Edward Vitali,” for Ava, who summoned him there. Morgan then goes off on Eddie and assumes that John hired him to kill her father. She yells how she’s not afraid of anyone and refuses to leave until she gets some answers. John gives Morgan his word that he didn’t hurt her father, but Morgan believes otherwise and refers to him as a robot with no feelings or conscience. “Answer me John! Where is he?” she shouts. Philip arrives and tries to persuade Morgan to leave. A furious Morgan refuses to leave until she gets some answers and reaches into her purse. Eddie pulls a gun on Morgan and Philip stands in the way, taking a bullet for Morgan.

Marlena comes to the pub and isn’t too thrilled to run into Ava, who apologizes if she’s hurt by her and John. Marlena vows to fight for her husband. Ava notes how noble that is of Marlena, but asks her when she’s going to accept that her husband doesn’t exist anymore. Marlena believes her husband still exists. She tells Ava to enjoy it while it lasts, warning her rival that when the “real” John comes back, he’ll be through with her.

Ava shows up at Steve and Kayla’s door wanting to talk. He says Kayla’s not there and implores her to make it quick. She expresses how sorry she is for all the trouble she’s caused his family and came to reassure him that she’s a different person now. She declares that she’s finally moving on with her life. “Hmm. With a married man. Congratulations,” he quips. Ava tries to persuade him to testify that she was a different person before her father prescribed drugs which messed with her head, reminding him that he knew her back then and wasn’t capable of doing those things which happened. Steve is confused, since she thought she felt responsible. She admits she’s always going to feel terrible, but says it’s not going to bring anyone back. “Shawn Brady wasn’t anyone!” he interjects. Steve agrees to tell what he knows about the person she was before and about the person she became. Ava quietly thanks him. She runs into Kayla before leaving.

Steve fills Kayla in on Ava’s visit and how he agreed to tell the truth. Kayla changes the topic to Baby Joe, who is still sleeping. She admits she trusts him. Steve laments making so many mistakes. Kayla assures him that they’ve all made mistakes. Steve embraces her.
