How to Teach Children the Parable of the Unmerciful Servant
- 1). Give the children an overview of the content of the passage. Stress to them the importance of bestowing mercy upon others. Read the passage from the Bible to them in its entirety.
- 2). Ask adults to perform a skit based on the passage. Assign someone to play the king, the unmerciful servant and the second servant.
- 3). Dress the person playing the king in a royal costume with a crown. The two servants can wear street clothes such as jeans. The clothing doesn't necessarily need to be true to the time period of the New Testament for children to understand the central message of the parable.
- 4). Perform the skit. Make sure all the children can hear and see the performance.
- 5). Encourage the children to discuss and interpret their understanding of the parable after the skit. Ask them thought-provoking questions. For example, ask them why God should forgive them if they cannot forgive their siblings or friends.
- 6). Emphasize the importance of forgiveness in Christianity through discussion. Ask the children to give an example of forgiveness they have experienced in their lives.
