Looking for job in the United States has become more challenging for most people, mainly because of the recent increase of unemployment. Why bother looking for a job when you can give jobs to other people? By becoming a headhunter, you'll be providing much needed employment to countless people (including yourself). There are five different paths in the headhunting career you can choose from, namely: specialty headhunter, general headhunter, retained headhunter, executive temporary headhunter, and contingency headhunter.

Specialty headhunters are those who focus on a particular industry. Their contacts include some of the leading companies in their chosen industry. They are hired by a company to locate local candidates as well as those in other areas who the company may want to hire and pay for their relocation expenses. Although rates of a specialty headhunter tend to be higher than that of a general headhunter, your chances of getting a job as a specialty hunter are greater.

Unlike specialty headhunters, general headhunters are known as the "catch-all" type of recruiter. Some of the general headhunters in the United States are freelancers, while others work for various companies. General headhunters are only paid when a candidate has been found and employed. In some cases, they get reimbursed for the expenses incurred when looking for candidates.

There are recruiters in Toronto who are more aggressive than a general or specialty headhunter. They are called retained headhunters who will call potential candidates even if these candidates are not looking for a job. Whether a candidate is found or not, retained headhunters get paid by the company through retainer fees.

An executive temporary headhunter, in contrast, is hired by a company to look for an employee to temporarily fill an executive position. Because the position is only temporary, the candidate will receive paychecks from the headhunter agency and not from the hiring company. Once the company decides to offer the position full-time, the retail recruiters will get paid through negotiable hiring fees.

Procurement headhunters only get paid when the candidate is hired by the company. There will be no reimbursement for any expenses incurred by the headhunter and there will be no guarantee that the company will hire the candidate. Companies benefit from using contingency headhunters because the former can have the service almost for free.
