Supplies Needed
The look of this finished bracelet is delicate, but when you where it, you’ll notice it has some substantial weight, not too much but a comfortable amount. There’s also some movement on this because, along with the heart charms, the bracelet comes with small sterling beads that move around the circles. The bracelet is a sterling charm bracelet from gems2behold.com.
Even without charms, it’s a beautiful bracelet, but I replaced the spring ring clasp with a crystal enhanced toggle clasp from Soft Flex and then added sterling and crystal heart charms (also from Soft Flex) to the links.
Of course, for those who are into “more is better,” you could add other charms or crystal dangles. I thought about adding more, but once I wore this around a little, I have decided I like it as is.
For this project, you’ll need:
1 Sterling (925) silver rounded charm bracelet
(SKU: F-CH-B-Box-SS)
1 Sterling silver toggle with faceted amethyst Austrian crystals
(EG-AT1AM)
10 – 4mm unsoldered sterling jump rings
8 – heart sterling silver charms with faceted amethyst crystals
(EG-AP102AM)
2- flat-nosed (aka chain-nosed) pliers
Wire cutters
Prepare the Bracelet and Toggle
1. You may or may not need the wire cutters, depending on how long you want the finished bracelet. For me, it was a tad too long, so I used wire cutters to cut off one link on the bracelet and also the added links to the “T” part of the toggle.
Add Toggle
2. Remove the spring ring clasp that is currently on the bracelet. (Remember to save this. It’s silver so you can use it for another piece of jewelry some time.) Gather your heart charms together.
3. Once you have cut off links as needed, open one jump ring, slip on one end of the toggle and one end of the bracelet onto the open ring, and with a pair of pliers in both hands gripping either side of the jump ring, close the ring bringing one hand towards you and the other moving away from you. (See Fixing Jump Ring Problems for more on opening and closing them properly.)
4. Repeat the above step to add the other side of the toggle to the opposite end of the bracelet.
5. At this point, you can start adding the heart charms. Use the same jump ring technique as you did with the clasp to connect charms to the rings on the bracelet.
6. Add a charm to every other ring on the bracelet moving from left to right each time you add a ring. This way, you will have charms on both sides of the bracelet links instead of just one side.
