Frigidaire Troubleshooting Techniques
- Appliances such as the Frigidaire microwave may experience an unpleasant odor that lingers after cooking. This odor, an acrid burning smell or the smell of melting plastic, could be the result of a mechanical fault, but may also come from the food cooked in the microwave. Determine which, and remove the odor if it is a food smell, by mixing 1 cup of water with the juice and grated peel of 1 lemon and several whole cloves in a 2-cup-sized microwave-safe measuring cup. Once thoroughly mixed, heat in the unit for four to five minutes at 100-percent power. If this process eliminates the odor, the smell was the result of food. If the smell still lingers, unplug the microwave and contact a service technician.
- Semi-portable appliances, and appliances that run on standard plugs such as a Frigidaire dehumidifier, can experience problems including full shutdown of the device. If your dehumidifier will not power on, ensure the device is plugged in and that power is going to the outlet or power strip. The water-collection bucket may also prevent a dehumidifier from operating, since a safety feature prevents the equipment from operating without adequate protection from the moisture it collects.
- Some users may notice a white chalky buildup around areas on appliances that make frequent use of tap water such as stove tops and refrigerators that dispense ice water. This buildup is not caused by the appliance itself, but instead by the water used in cooking or drinking. Test the water supply and, if necessary, use a water softener to eliminate excess minerals in your water.
- For Frigidaire refrigerators with ice makers that do not produce ice, first ensure that the ice maker switch is on. Next, check the water filter for buildup that may clog the water flow. Also, check the positioning of the water tube and filter to ensure they're properly seated. If ice is still not made, contact a repair professional for service.
