    • 1). Shock the pool water with a super chlorinate if you notice greenish water or green or black spots on the pool liner. Going forward, keep the pH level at the recommended level to prevent future algae growth.

    • 2). Apply chemicals to adjust the pH to the recommended level if the water turns black, brown or blue when treated with chlorine. These colors are caused by the oxidation of copper, iron and manganese. Depending on the recommendations of your pool supplier, you may use muriatic acid to reduce the pH or sodium carbonate to increase the pH.

    • 3). Add more chlorine or other chemicals, such as muriatic acid or sodium carbonate, to adjust the pH level if you notice that the water looks milky or cloudy.

    • 4). Remove sediment on the bottom of the pool or surface debris with a pool vacuum or skimmer. Intex offers an accessory kit that contains both items to keep the pool clean.
