Definition: Pyrrha was the daughter of Epimetheus and the wife of Deucalion. Epimetheus was Prometheus' brother. His gift was hindsight while Prometheus' was foresight. Epimetheus was the mate of Pandora, who is known for releasing the evils of the world from a jar or box. Pyrrha and Deucalion were spared in the Bronze Age world ending flood (deluge) as a result of preparing for it as they did when Prometheus warned them to do so.


They then had to repopulate the world, but Pyrrha was saved the burden of so many pregnancies by being told by an oracle that Deucalion should thrown the bones of his mother behind his shoulder. They understood the mother to be the earth and the bones to be rocks, so Deucalion threw rocks behind him. These rocks became human men. Pyrrha also threw rocks over her shoulder and they became human females.
