The Recent Golden Globes Controversy Revisited on Satellite TV

Taking oneself too seriously and not knowing how to take a joke are two detrimental qualities to have when in a room with a ruthless comedian.
Unfortunately, for many members of the Hollywood community of elite screen and television actors, actresses, directors, producers and other assorted roles they were put on the spot by comedian Ricky Gervais during the recent Golden Globe awards.
While it's quite common to poke a bit of fun at the attending guests, as well as the films and series which have been nominated each year, the host in generally expected to keep it all in good taste.
Many who caught the broadcast on satellite TV, or watched it later on DVR found the jokes to be relevant and hilarious, although a bit controversial, while those who were the butts of the jokes weren't laughing quite so hard (or at all).
In fact, some members of the Hollywood elite were not just offended, but outwardly upset about the jokes allowed at the Golden Globes.
As part of his contract to host the event, however, Gervais demanded the right to say 'whatever he wanted' while performing his hosting duties.
This is one mistake the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organizers of the event, are unlikely to make again.
Poking fun at everything from Scientologists to various actor's stints in rehab and jail, personal troubles and tribulations, and even the American public's general lack in other cultures, the really funny part is that many viewers are taking his side.
They are used to seeing those in high definition on their TV screens only going on about how great they are, while the rest of country slaves away doing what they consider real jobs with little to no fanfare.
Where are the giant houses, big cars, and massive paychecks for those members of society that keep things running, while a little acting, dancing or singing can earn a person million dollar paydays? Perhaps Hollywood will get a bit of a jolt from all the hidden resentment coming out from their 'adoring fans' (who by the way are spending less and less of their hard-earned dollars going to the cinema every year) and think twice about the direction the industry is going in.
Even more refreshing than the fact that the general public is totally for bashing self-important celebrities has been the enthusiastic support of the political right for Gervais's commentary.
They believe that the media is constantly taking gouges at politicians, and negatively impacting the opinions of the masses with cheap jabs and jokes in poor taste.
For those politicians sitting in Hollywood's hot seat 90% of the time, it was nice to see the tables turned.
A little 'roast' once in a while isn't such a bad thing, and this time failing to take it on the chin might be exactly how Hollywood shoots itself in the foot.
Of course, in the realm of entertainment, no bad deed goes unrewarded, and Gervais is riding out a wave of publicity in the wake of the Golden Globes triumph, or disaster, depending on one's perspective.
He will be appearing on the "Piers Morgan Tonight" show on official satellite TV news channel CNN to discuss and defend his comments the other night.
His argument, it is said, is largely supported by a distaste for fake comedians that tell polite jokes and schmooze the celebrities instead of providing full on comedy and entertainment even at the expense of a few bruised egos and hurt feelings.
