Short Scene Haircuts for Girls
- If you are taking more than six inches off of your hair, pull your hair into a low, loose ponytail first. Then, cut off the ponytail right above the hair elastic, getting rid of the mass.
Wet your hair with the spray bottle. Wet hair is easier to manipulate and cut than dry hair, and dry hair doesn't clump, making it less messy to clean up. Use the comb to create an extreme part on one side of your hair, about two inches above the ear. Create the part on the side that you normally part your hair. Clip hair back.
When cutting, it is important to always pull the hair up and out; if you cut while the hair is lying flat, you will get an uneven, boxy look. However, if you want a chunky, box-like haircut, use this method. Begin by pulling the hair straight out right above the ear and cut the piece down to about two inches long. Slowly move your way across your head, using the same cutting method, getting longer as you reach the center of the crown of your head. The hair on the crown of your head should be about four to six inches long, depending on the style you want. Leave your bangs long enough so that they reach just past your eye.
When cutting the back of your head, have a friend help you or position a mirror behind you and in front of you so you can view the back yourself. Use the same method when cutting the back. Start longer at the top, bring the length shorter in the middle of the back of your head, then longer again (about two to three inches) at the nape of your neck.
Once the cut is complete, place the chunking cap over your head and mix up the hair bleach according to the package directions. Use the chunking hook provided in the chunking cap kit to pull large chunks of hair out from the holes in the cap. Make sure the chunks are at least an inch thick for the most drama. When applying the hair bleach, use a tint brush and only choose selective pieces of hair. Let the bleach process for about ten minutes, then brush bleach onto a few more selective pieces of hair. Repeat this until all of the hair is covered. This will give each piece of hair a different processing time, giving you blonde, orange and bronze chunks in your hair for the calico look. Check on your hair every five to ten minutes when bleaching until you have the desired lightness. - This style is best done by a professional. The mushroom bob is reminiscent of the bowl cuts of the past, but for a chic look, you do not want to use a bowl and try it yourself. The mushroom bob creates a sharp-edged frame around your face, creating bangs that begin at the crown of your head. Karen O from the band Yeah Yeah Yeahs popularized this sleek, shiny look. The haircut can range in length from to the chin to just below the ears.
- A great look for curly hair is cutting one side of your hair short and leaving the other side about chin-length. Cut one side of your hair using the same technique mentioned in the Chunky Calico section. When cutting the back, begin at the same length as the shortened side of your hair, then slowly get longer as you progress around the back of your head. This will blend the hair better. For a more edgy look, use a pair of clippers and shave one side of your hair to about one inch without bothering to blend.
