How To File Income Tax Returns for 2008
- 1). Gather all of your tax documents from the 2008 tax year. This includes items such as W-2 and 1099 Misc forms, mortgage interest statements and any other proof of income or expenses for the year. If you do not have all of your W-2s or 1099s, you may obtain duplicate forms by contacting the IRS.
- 2). Obtain official 2008 tax filing forms and instructions from the IRS. Forms can be downloaded or ordered online from the IRS website. It is very important to use forms specifically for the 2008 tax year to complete an accurate return because tax laws and deductions can change yearly.
- 3). Enter all of your information of Form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ. Attach additional forms and schedules as needed. You may need additional forms to claim credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit. For additional information such as deduction rates and credit amounts, refer to the 2008 1040 instructions.
- 4). Sign and date your completed tax return. Mail all forms and attachments to the IRS. For a complete state-by-state listing of where to mail paper tax returns, visit the IRS website link in References or call the IRS customer service number at 800-829-1040.
