How to Purge Propane Tanks
- 1). Use a connecting line with a regulator and a dual purge valve that includes a bleed port to hook up the new propane tank with a full, functioning propane tank.
- 2). Adjust the valve on the connecting line to the "purge" setting and open the valve on your new propane tank by turning it counterclockwise. Open the connecting line bleed port.
- 3). Open the valve on the full propane tank by turning it counterclockwise. Adjust the valve on the connecting line to the "charge" setting. Listen for the sounds of propane gas moving from the full propane tank to your new one. It will take about one minute for a 20 lb. propane tank.
- 4). Adjust the valve on the connecting line to the "purge" setting and wait 30 seconds while the propane vapors are released from your new tank.
- 5). Repeat this purging process four times to prepare your new propane tank for use.
