Salem Inn

Nicole returns home from a prenatal workout ready to hit the showers when she hears a knock at the door. She initially assumes it’s the “creepy hotel manager,” but is surprised to find E.J. standing at her door. He announces that he’s picking her up for their date. A starry-eyed Nicole allows him to come in and apologizes for the way she looks, since she didn’t figure their date was this morning.

E.J. says he had to drop off some papers to a client in the city and playfully implies how a little bird told him that her favorite restaurant was in Chicago. He dances with her as he suggests going to eat, going to see a show, and just getting to know each other better. He admits he spent a lot of time chasing after something that just wasn’t meant to be, but wants to find out if it’s meant to be with her. A beaming Nicole asks him for a little time to make herself beautiful.

As Nicole is getting ready, E.J. answers the knock at the door to a man who hands him an eviction notice. The man affirms that Nicole has until 1:00 to leave today, otherwise she and the belongings will be forcibly removed and put out on the street.

Two hotel workers later pack up Nicole’s things as E.J. instructs them. One of the men finds Pookie’s bed under the bed and tells E.J. it will be an extra charge, since they don’t allow dogs there. Nicole emerges and asks someone to tell her what’s going on. E.J. reveals that they are packing her bags and getting her out, since she has an unpaid bill.

She blames it all on her dearly departed husband, complaining how she’ll now be out on the street. E.J. assures her that she and Pookie can come and stay with her.

Nicole later eats her breakfast and wonders if he was serious about her moving into the mansion, recalling how just yesterday he accused her of using the baby to go after the family fortune. E.J. reminds her that he already apologized for that. Nicole admits that she doesn’t feel comfortable imposing. E.J. assures her that wouldn’t be the case and reiterates his invitation for her to move into the mansion with him so he can look after her and the baby. “What about Sami?” asks Nicole. E.J. affirms that he and Sami are through and wants to take care of Nicole and wants to be someone she can count on. She asks if Pookie can move in too. “Pookie especially,” replies a lighthearted E.J. as he rolls his eyes. Nicole accepts his offer and hugs him. She then asks what about Stefano. E.J. assures her that he’ll handle his father and proposes they get out of there. They head out to pick up Pookie from her dog grooming session.

DiMera Mansion

Stefano reads the Salem Spectator and we see the front page entitled “Abe Carver Campaigns Amidst Scandal.” John emerges and says they need to talk, but Stefano is in no mood until he finishes his coffee. “It’s over. You have won,” announces John. Stefano asks him to be more specific. John affirms that he’s packing it in and has decided to give up control of the DiMera empire, effective immediately. Stefano is surprised by John’s announcement and believes John’s made a very wise decision. “Perhaps the first one I’ve made, since you strapped me in that chair and rewired my brain,” rehashes John. Stefano questions why the sudden change of heart. John admits he’s doing it for Blondie, since it’s what she wants.

Marlena's Office

Chloe goes to see Marlena and thanks her for sparing the time. She sighs how she could use some advice with Lucas. Marlena isn’t sure she can help Chloe. Chloe admits she’s made so many bad decisions and doesn’t trust her own reactions to men anymore. She doesn’t want to be a fool ever again, rehashing how the only two men she’s ever fallen for have burned her really badly, and she wants to avoid making those same mistakes. Marlena implores her to tell her the problem. “I think Lucas is cheating on me,” demurs Chloe, recalling how she returned home from her trip and found Sami settled in. She complains how Lucas didn’t even ask her if it would be okay or warn her that Sami would be there. Marlena doesn’t have any information for her regarding Lucas and Sami and advises her to take it up with Lucas. Chloe agrees and apologizes for sounding needy and possessive.

After Chloe leaves, John enters and implores her to stop what she’s doing, insisting that what he has to say is hot off the presses. “I’m getting my act together and I’m taking it on the road,” implies John, as he claims he’s a changed man. Marlena is dubious, recalling how he’s told her that before. John admits that the assertions which Elvis made about him were right, and now he realizes that unless he takes action, he’ll lose her for good. Marlena questions what he did. John reveals that he gave up control of the DiMera empire and did it because of her. Marlena doesn’t know what to say. “I did it all because I love you,” he professes. John proceeds to hit the road and let her get back to work. Marlena encourages him to stick around, since her patient isn’t due for another hour. John says he has a lot of packing to do, since he’s leaving the DiMera mansion. Marlena expresses how proud of him she is. She suggests they can get a cup of coffee and talk, but John believes the sooner he’s out of the mansion, the better. He then hands her the signed divorce papers. Marlena stammers, but John interrupts and tells her the ball’s in her court.

Back at the DiMera Mansion

E.J. and Nicole arrive, where Nicole yells for Pookie to come back. E.J. asks Mary the housekeeper to get Edward and Simon to take Nicole’s bags up to her room. Nicole complains how her dog never listens to her. E.J. surmises that the pooch is just exploring her new house. Stefano emerges and demands to know what’s going on. “Surprise! I’m moving in,” reveals Nicole. “She is moving in?” questions Stefano, who asserts that he’s the one who has the last word in regards to who comes and goes in the house. He chastises E.J. for bringing in “a border and her repulsive little mutt.” Nicole tries to kiss up to Stefano, but Stefano threatens to throw both of them out unless someone tells him what’s going on. “We’re having a baby,” reveals Nicole.
