How to Get Children Interested in Art

    Starting Early

    • 1). Expose your children to art at a young age. Instead of simply letting your toddlers and preschool-aged children watch television and play with dolls and figurines, set up age-appropriate arts and crafts projects for them. Also have them listen to various forms of music, attend a children's theater production or view a hands-on display at the museum.

    • 2). Enroll your children in drawing or painting classes when they are old enough. Select art classes that are casual and fun. If the art class is too structured or rigid, it will place too much stress on your children, and they will soon lose interest in art. When your children are old enough to know what types of art they might enjoy, sign them up for art classes that offer a similar focus.

    • 3). Make art a family affair. Visit art museums, theatrical events and musical events as a family on a regular basis.

    • 4). Encourage your children to explore their creativity by ensuring that art and craft supplies are readily available at home. Ask your children regularly about their interests and try to provide the means by which to explore them.
