It wasn't so long ago that reaching seniority meant for many that their social life and perhaps more importantly their outlet to the world would have been severely limited.
It's a sad fact but as we get older our circle of friends deceases and for many seniors the fear of isolation and loneliness are all too real.
However, thanks to the wonders of the Internet more and more seniors are embracing technology and taking their first steps into a cyber-world packed full possibilities.
With Web 2.
0 websites and social networking platforms hugely popular with younger audiences, seniors are now also realising the potential of this technology as a means of keeping in touch with family and making new friendships with other seniors the world over.
Whilst senior chat rooms and private messaging are a fantastic way for seniors to belong to a community of like minded people, there are dangers that anybody new to these platforms should be made aware of before fully embracing them.

It may seem obvious, but you should never disclose your real name and keep information personal to yourself private at all times.
Never real this information in a chat environment, no matter how well you think you know the person you are talking too.
Whilst the Internet is an amazing communication tool, unfortunately it does have its downside.
Con artists and fraudsters will deliberately prey on the elderly in these types of online environments by creating fictitious profiles with the sole purpose of trying to befriend, and then attempt to con the victim out of money with some elaborate scam.
Fortunately, cases like these are relatively few and far between, so the risks associated with building friendships online are considered to be well justified.
All the same, it is still important to be mindful of the dangers and adhere to the advice above.
By doing so the chances are good that any community website you take part in, whether that is a senior forum or chat site will be a great benefit for you.
It is also refreshing to see that nowadays there are websites springing up that are solely dedicated to the over 50's, where before seniors had to make do with general chat rooms or social media sites.
These were often too confusing or typically only used by the young and so were often very intimidating not to mention confusing.
