What Is a Good Remedy for Joint Pain?
- Apply a heating pad to the area of your body that is suffering from joint pain. Create your own heating pad by wetting a hand towel and ringing out excess water. Place the towel on a microwave-safe plate and microwave the towel for 1 minute, or until warm. Be careful when removing the towel, as it may be hot. Place the towel on the painful area and allow it to rest until the pain subsides or the towel loses its warmth. If the pain remains, reheat the towel for 1 to 2 minutes, and re-apply to affected area.
- A soak in a hot bath immediately alleviates joint pain, and relaxes you simultaneously. Utilize your gym's sauna by sitting in the steam room for 15 to 20 minutes to achieve maximum pain relief. You should not take a hot bath if you have heart or breathing problems, as the bath can exacerbate the condition. Saunas can cause dehydration, and should not be used for longer than 20 minutes.
- Thirty-minute daily aerobic and strengthening exercises helps build muscle to protect your bones. Regular exercise provides flexibility and relieves stiffness. Strengthening exercises should be performed every other day, as your joints may be sore after working out. If you're suffering from sore joints and muscles after working out, apply a cold compress or ice pack to your joints to relieve pain. According to the Arthritis Foundation, ice packs can be applied for 15 to 30 minutes.
