How to Calculate Food & Drink for a Party
- 1). Make a list of your guests and break it down into categories: light drinkers, non-drinkers, heavy drinkers, vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters.
- 2). Use a drink calculator to estimate the amount of alcohol you will need. Always round off to the higher number.
- 3). If appetizers are all you are serving, make sure to have a variety. If you have only a few special meals to consider--vegan or low carb--have at least three different choices. Estimate that every person will take 3 to 5 servings of each appetizer.
- 4). If an entree is included, serve a five-ounce protein portion per person, one cup of salad or veggies and 2 to 4 rolls. In serving an entree, decrease the amount of appetizers by half.
- 5). Don't forget dessert. One cake serves 10. If you are offering a variety of small desserts, people will usually try 2 to 4 different pieces.
