iPod Audio Won't Play
- 1). Check your headphone connection and make sure that the 1/8-inch plug is firmly connected to the port at the top of your iPod. If available, try inserting a different pair of headphones or earbuds to find out if your problem is simply related to a shorted wire.
- 2). Check your volume. If your volume level is at 0, you will not hear sound. Raise the volume on a touch wheel iPod (such as an iPod Classic or Nano) by swiping your finger clockwise over the wheel, with the device turned on. For iPod Touch, tap the screen on your music player and drag the volume dial to the right. If your iPod contains a "Volume Limit" indicator, click your main iPod menu, select "Settings" and then "Volume Limit." Raise the amount of allotted volume if the current amount appears at or near the "0" mark.
- 3). Play your iPod through a docking device, such as a pair of iPod speakers containing a docking bay, which looks like a small rectangular plug that connects to the dock at the bottom of your iPod. If you find that your iPod plays audio through a docking device but not through the headphone port, you likely have a problem related to the internal wiring that extends from the auxiliary port. Professional maintenance is recommended.
- 4). Reset your iPod. Basic functionality glitches can often be remedied with a quick reset, which you can do by holding down the "Home" and "Sleep/Wake" buttons on your iPod Touch, or the "Menu" and center buttons on your click wheel iPod, until the Apple logo appears on your screen.
