How to File for Unemployment in Knoxville, Tennessee
- 1). Collect all of the information you need for your unemployment claim. You need your driver's license number, address, social security number and telephone number. You also need the business name of the employer that laid you off as well as the employer's address and phone number. You will also need to provide the date you last worked for that employer, the reason you lost your job and the names and addresses of all employers for the previous 18 months.
- 2). Go to the Tennessee Unemployment website (see Resources) to file for unemployment online. Enter all of the information you gathered on the online form to file your initial claim for Tennessee unemployment benefits. In Knoxville, you can file online regardless of why you lost your job. As of this publication, you can file Sunday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and midnight EST. The site is not available on Saturdays.
- 3). Call the Tennessee Unemployment Claims Center to file over the phone if you do not have access to a computer. From Knoxville, call 877-813-0950 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST. Tell the representative that you need to file for unemployment. Use the information you gathered to answer the questions asked by the representative. A touch tone phone must be used for the call.
