Working from home is an ideal solution for many people, especially women with children and families to look after.
It's important to have a dedicated space for your home office, so you can more easily separate your working time from your family time.
It's also important that you feel comfortable in your home office so you can be as productive as possible while you are there.
Whether you're lucky enough to have a separate room for your home office, or you simply have a corner of a room you can utilize, you will want to give that space a nice office like feel rather than a homely one.
You don't have to spend a fortune on office furniture and decor these days.
You just need a little creativity and you can work wonders with things you already have in your house, and perhaps the addition of a new desk and chair.
Having a comfortable chair to sit in while you work at your desk is essential.
You need the proper support for your back, and ideally the chair should swivel, and have wheels, so that you can reach the items in your work space easily without having to strain or over reach.
Most furniture stores have a good selection of office furniture ranging from timber executive desks, to the small budget student desk you might buy your child to do their homework on.
Before you visit the store to purchase a new desk, follow these guidelines to help you make the perfect choice:

1. Make a note of the space you have available for your home office, and the shape of the room or space.
   If you're lucky enough to have a large space or room available, you might want to consider a big desk with a return.
   Don't forget to check which side you would prefer the return to be, left or right, because one or the other might not be suitable at all.
   
2. If you only have a small space available, you might want to consider a more straight forward rectangular desk as this will take up less space and can even be set up against a wall if necessary.
   
3. You will no doubt have a budget in mind for your office furniture, but don't be tempted to purchase the cheapest desk and chair you see.
   Some lesser quality desks will not stand the test of time and may even develop an annoying wobble when in use.
   
4. Think about the features you will need before you buy the desk.
   For example, do you need to have a pull out shelf for a computer keyboard, and perhaps a small cupboard.
   Some desks might come in a set, with a small shelf unit you can keep to the side if you have space.
   You can even find quite large corner units with a vertical storage unit attached where you can keep computer discs or small files.
   
5. Don't overlook your choice of chair.
   You need to ensure the chair will actually look right with the desk, and more importantly will it fit the desk.
   It wouldn't be practical to have a large executive style chair with arm rests if you only have the smallest desk you could find because you're limited for space.
