- South Carolina provides a property tax exemption on dwellings owned and inhabited by permanently and totally disabled veterans, who have received such certification from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for service-related disabilities. In addition, former prisoners of war or recipients of the Medal of Honor may also qualify for tax-exemptions on their dwellings. When the veteran dies, the tax exemptions pass to the surviving spouse. The surviving spouse may transfer this tax exemption when selling the dwelling and buying another one in South Carolina.

- The families of those killed in action, missing in action or taken as a prisoner of war may receive the Casualty Based Grant of $1,000. This grant is part of the South Carolina Military Relief Fund, which also provides aid for families of National Guard troops and reservists called to serve on active duty after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Families may receive a needs-based grant of up to $2,000 to pay necessary living expenses, including rent, food, medical bills and utilities.
- Spouses and dependents may be buried with the veteran family member at the South Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, also known as the M. J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
