Problems With Trimming Bamboo Roots

  • One of the main difficulties with trimming bamboo roots is where the plant is situated. Root pruning must be done twice annually for good control, so it's best to site the bamboo where you can dig easily. The target is underground, and rocky or compacted soils can make the project especially difficult. In an untamed grove, the roots may be feet away from the parent plant, necessitating digging through tough rhizomes and runners. A pickax can be helpful, as is a root saw.
