Are Parabens Bad? What Are the Dangers of Parabens?

Let me ask you a simple question: would you rather use a natural skin care product or an artificial product that might cause cancer? 

Are parabens bad? Parabens are an artificial preservative widely used in the cosmetic industry.  They are effective in preventing bacteria and fungi from growing and they are inexpensive.  Traditionally they have also been considered safe for human use.  That idea is currently being challenged.

Doctors have found parabens in breast cancer tumors. Of course, they have wondered how did they get there?  The preliminary answer is: parabens have been absorbed through the skin and since they behave like the hormone estrogen, they are collecting in breast cancer tumors.

At this point, scientists are not willing to define the dangers of parabens.  There haven't been enough studies.  However, it has been reported that the safety of these chemicals should be reassessed. 

Absorbing an estrogen like substance into your body can disrupt your body's normal hormone production.  The amount of parabens in your skin care may be small, however, you are applying that amount everyday. 

It has been reported that substances absorbed through your skin have 10 times the concentration of a dose taken orally.  You are also washing the preservative into the water supply every time you use shampoo, or shave gel.

I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to take chances with a substance that has been found in cancer tumors.  There are effective natural alternatives that do not include the dangers of parabens.

You can find skin care that actually supports the health of your skin.  We all want to have  smooth and beautiful skin. The best way to do that is to eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and include a natural skin care regimen. 

If the concentration of ingredients are stronger when absorbed through the skin, then why not use that to your advantage and put healthy products on your skin?  Use skincare that is high in antioxidants and has been proven to support your bodies natural skin functions.

So now you can take this information and ask: are parabens bad? There may not have been enough scientific studies done to know the answer.  However, are you willing to risk the dangers of parabens when there are natural alternatives? I know I'm not.
