Home Crocheting Is an Act of Love

I really love crocheting for my grandchildren - one grandson (7 years of age) and my granddaughter (2 years of age).
They love what I make them.
When they're just born, I always make them a crocheted sweater and hat.
The Mothers love them and tend to keep them forever - see what Grandma made for you when you were born.
She must really love you! The title of this article says it all as far as I'm concerned! Crocheting is very time-consuming, I'll admit that.
You have to put a great deal of thought into it at first, but after a while, it comes naturally.
Books from the local library can show you how, but as one student informed me, "They don't show you how to twist your fingers right!" Their terms are alien to most people who are just starting out.
These books also don't show you or teach you the abbreviations that are most commonly used in the crochet world.
For example, what is chain? What is a single crochet, a double crochet, a half-double crochet stitch, or for that matter, a treble stitch? You get to the point that you think you are hopeless, but honest, you aren't.
I do remember those frustrating days very well and I can relate.
I finally got so desperate that I had someone show me, and as she moved her hands, I did the exact same thing! That's how I finally learned! (I even learned "how to twist my fingers right"!) Another thing I can relate to is this: when you are finished the first project, you are scared and anxious to move on at the same time, but fear stops you dead in your tracks.
What are those stitches they are referring to? I don't have a clue! Now, it's time to research again and this is an ongoing thing for some people (like me, at first).
Depending on what you're crocheting, some of those things need to be stitched together.
(Why didn't they tell me that??) Most instructors make you stitch them together by hand, whereas I use my sewing machine now.
But I didn't know that when I started.
The concept is basically simple, and you think afterward, why didn't I think of that before? Don't feel bad, instructors tend to want you to know everything there is to know even if one part of that project scares you.
No shortcuts from the instructor's point of view! Now, there is nothing I don't crochet.
Crochet stitches and/or abbreviations no longer scare me.
Crocheting has turned into one of my passions.
I get such a tremendous sense of achievement and pride in the finished product that I can't wait to start another project.
I'm at the point where I don't need it for myself, but I wonder who I could give it to! Now, I play around and create my own patterns.
That is even more rewarding than crocheting from a pattern book or whatever.
I have learned the shortcuts and all the stitches, plus all the abbreviations.
