How to Redecorate With Glass Doorknobs
- 1). Loosen the nut on the collar of one side of the existing doorknob, using your flat-head screwdriver to turn the nut counterclockwise. Pull the knob off. Pull out the knob that's on the other side of the door. The doorknob spindle should slide out of the hole with it.
- 2). Set the new spindle in the hole of one glass doorknob and twist it in clockwise, as if it were a screw. Twist it in as far as it will go. Don't tighten the nut on the side of the doorknob base yet.
- 3). Thread the other end of the spindle through the doorknob hole in the door, until the base of the doorknob is set against the locking mechanism.
- 4). Screw the other doorknob on the other end of the spindle (the end that's sticking out the other side), holding the first doorknob steady and turning the second one counterclockwise until the doorknob is tight against the locking mechanism.
- 5). Test the doorknobs on both sides of the door, making sure they turn easily to move the door latch. Hold and turn the knobs on the spindle to tighten or loosen them, as needed. (If the knobs bind against the locking mechanism and don't turn easily, they're too tight; if they rattle and move in the mechanism, they're too loose.)
- 6). Tighten the nuts on the base of each doorknob, using your flat-head screwdriver to turn them clockwise, once the knobs are properly positioned.
- 7). Repeat for each interior door in the house.
