How to Clean Checkbook Covers
- 1). Remove the contents of your checkbook cover. Remove any additional slip-in plastic dividers.
- 2). Place a towel onto a flat surface and put the checkbook cover on top of the towel.
- 3). Spray the checkbook cover with an all-purpose cleaner if it's a vinyl cover, or a spray-on leather cleaner if it's a leather cover. According to the Auto Barn, leather is a skin and requires regular maintenance to keep it clean.
- 4). Spray the same cleaner onto a paper towel and gently clean the checkbook cover by rubbing in circular movements over the outside of the cover, and inside of the cover. Pay close attention to the area you tend to handle the most, such as the edge you open regularly.
- 5). Dry the check book cover by rubbing it inside and out with a fresh paper towel.
- 1). Remove the contents of your fabric checkbook cover. Remove any slip-in or snap-in plastic dividers, photo/credit card slots, and the book of checks.
- 2). Wash the checkbook cover in with a load of towels on a cold water setting with the manufacturer's recommended amount of detergent for your type and size of load.
- 3). Remove the checkbook from the washing machine.
- 4). Dry the checkbook in the clothes dryer and remove promptly. The checkbook cover may shrink slightly but with normal usage the fabric should fit your add-ins and book of checks. If you don't want to risk shrinkage, open the cloth checkbook cover and hang the spine area over the flat portion of a plastic clothes hanger. Hang the hanger in a well-ventilated area and allow the cloth checkbook cover to completely dry before using.
