Total Cholesterol - What it Means

One cannot cure a disease that they do not know.
Similarly, one cannot embark on the right course of action pertaining to their cholesterol levels if they have not undergone a medical test to determine their levels.
It is therefore imperative that one visits a hospital to undergo the painful but important LDL level test.
For instance, far many people indulge in fat-saturated foods such as sausages and eggs cooked in 37% saturated butter, oblivious of the fact that they are increasing their LDL levels.
As such, it is not amazing when doctors make conclusions about the high levels of LDL in our bodies which exceed the desirable 200 mg/dl level.
That is, 200 milligrams of total cholesterol per deciliter of blood.
Basically the LDL level should not exceed 100 mg/dl, while the most recommended HDL level should be about 55 to 60 mg/dl.
As such, anything above this may sound the alarms for heart attack or strokes.
In mitigation to this problem, many doctors normally advice on using natural means such as taking cholesterol lowering foods or alternatively subscribing to a statin medication.
Interestingly, and for obvious reasons not many people find it easy to abandon their favorite diets in favor of the LDL level lowering diets such as fruits and margarine that are rich in stanols and sterols as prescribed by the doctors.
However, the looming danger of getting heart attack or stroke pushes them to trying some of these LDL level lowering foods.
One very important message about lowering our LDL levels while increasing HDL levels is that, we cannot achieve all this if we are not willing to discard our old and bad habits and adopting good ones in regards to our feeding habits.
As a matter of fact, keeping our bodies healthy is not an easy endeavor and in most cases using natural remedies is not enough particularly for those of us who have very high level of LDL.
It makes sense therefore, to argue that we should always subscribe to conventional medications such as statins to supplement the natural remedies.
Using these two methods will definitely lead to the increment of the HDL level while decreasing the LDL levels.
