There is no denying the fact that the game of poker has seen a drastic change in the past few years. The game was initially played in poker rooms or dens between players who were known to each other. However, today most of the poker players are either on the net or on the television. The game is no longer one where players know each other, but instead you may be playing with someone seated across seven seas.

Of course there are advantages of internet poker and it has allowed a lot of people to learn and play the game wit great ease. Players need not bother about finding a place to play but simply logging on to the site is all that is required. But with these changes, there is also a need to look into the old real time strategies of poker and decide if they need to be changed in order to adapt with the online poker games.

Below is a look into what strategies worked for real time poker

Initially the main game of poker was the seven card stud game. Here all the payers placed their bets till Showtime and it was the player with the strongest hand who took the pot home. As is clear this was a game purely of luck as opposed to anything else. However, over time players realized the futility of betting on hands that they knew would not stand a chance to win and the concept of packing the hand came into being. This is where the need to strategize came into the game. One had to pick up on the tells of the other player and judge if the hand was worth betting on or not. Not only were the players able to lower their losses significantly the game also took a turn towards being very exciting.

Now for Internet Poker needs

Then the game took another turn and we were introduced to online poker. Here the game that won the hearts of the players was Texas Hold'em where each player got two personal cards and had to use the five community cards on the table to make the strongest five cards hand. Needless to say, this called for a change in strategy. It got very difficult to judge in round one which cards would be strong and which ones would be weak. It was only after all five of the community cards opened up that one could take such a call. So the players went back to an aggressive game where they stuck in the game till all five community cards were opened up. It was only after this at most online players decided if they wanted to bet further or not. So in the case of internet poker, the play tight strategy of seven stud did not work too well and one had to bet on the cards for the first three rounds at least.

So do keep in mind that if you are shifting from real time poker to online poker, you must brush up your strategies and learn what works in the online scenario.
