How to Find Top Marketing Trend Words

    • 1). Consult with Google Trends, Urban Dictionary or the Merriam-Webster lists for top-searched terms and new slang. Make your own list of terms. Use your best judgment as to whether the terms are slang or could be used to evaluate quality, leadership or general competency of a business.

    • 2). Type the terms from your list into a search engine like Google or Bing to see how they are being used on other websites or whether they are being used to market products. Cross any that don't come up within the first several results pages off the list.

    • 3). Cross-reference the terms against lists of "top marketing buzz terms" that are easily found with a web search. Typically, these lists recount the rampant overuse of words like "synergy," "proactive" and "leader" in corporate boardrooms. There's no rule saying those words can't be used again but it's best to be aware if you intend to market a product with a term generally accepted as stale.

    • 4). Try out the words. Head out to coffee shops, shopping centers or bars that attract a younger crowd. Ask people about the terms. Concentrate on how well the terms are understood and how much attention or thought they seem to provoke.
