How to Troubleshoot an Electrical Vacuum
- 1). Place sheets of newspaper on the floor. Stand the electric vacuum cleaner on the newspapers.
- 2). Remove the vacuum's cover. Twist the end of the dust bag off the socket inside the vacuum.
- 3). Insert a water-moistened edge of a paper towel into the socket. Twirl the paper towel around the inside edges of the socket to loosen hair balls and clumps of dust that have gotten stuck inside.
- 4). Remove the towel from inside the socket. Pull the now-loosened contaminates out of the socket.
- 5). Place the dust bag, if it is only half filled, back on the socket -- otherwise, twist the end of a new dust bag on the socket. Close the vacuum's cover. Throw the sheets of newspaper in the trash.
- 1). Twist the hose from the socket on the outside edge or back of the electrical vacuum cleaner. Pull the hose out from the back of the vacuum cleaner -- if there is a button or tab to press or push aside, do this first.
- 2). Place a sheet of newspaper on the floor. Straighten the hose. Lay the hose on the newspaper.
- 3). Moisten a paper towel with tap water. Insert an edge of the moistened paper towel into the socket on the outside of the vacuum.
- 4). Twirl the towel inside the socket to loosen any contaminants that might be inside. Remove the towel. Insert your fingers into the socket and pull out any contaminants. Wipe the outside edges of the socket with the water-moistened paper towel.
- 5). Insert another edge of the water-moistened paper towel into one of the ends of the hose. Twirl the towel around the inside edge to loosen any contaminants. Remove the towel.
- 6). Insert your fingers into the hose and pull out any contaminants that have gotten stuck inside. Repeat this procedure at the other end of the hose.
- 7). Hold the hose upright. Drop a pencil through the top of the hose. Shake the hose to ensure that the pencil falls out the bottom.
- 8). Reattach the hose to the socket and to the back of the electrical vacuum cleaner. Dispose of the newspaper sheet in the trash.
- 1). Place a sheet of newspaper on the floor. Place the electrical vacuum cleaner on its side so that the bottom is on the newspaper.
- 2). Rotate the vacuum so that the brush/roller assembly on the bottom is facing up.
- 3). Rotate the brush/roller assembly a quarter turn clockwise and then a quarter turn counterclockwise with one hand. Pull carpet threads, dust balls and other contaminants off the center of the brush/roller assembly with the other hand as it is rotated.
- 4). Repeat this procedure, only pulling the contaminants from the corners of the brush/roller assembly.
- 5). Run the edge of a water-moistened paper towel along the edges of the brush/roller assembly to pick up loose dirt. Run another edge of the paper towel against the gaps in the brush/roller assembly to pick up loose dirt.
- 6). Return the electrical vacuum cleaner to an upright position. Dispose of the newspaper and paper towel in the trash.
