Where Can You Go to Watch TV Shows on the Internet?
- Launched in 2008, Hulu is a joint venture among ABC, NBC and Fox. The free, advertising-supported site offers shows from those stations and others, including Comedy Central, USA and FX.
- In addition to renting movies and TV shows on DVD via its subscription mail service, Netflix has started offering streaming video of select movies and TV shows. Netflix has about 12,000 movies and TV episodes available for online viewing, including episodes of "Dexter," "Weeds" and "The Office."
- While the majority of its content is user-created and -uploaded video, YouTube also offers a number of streaming TV shows, including "Married ... With Children," "Fantasy Island" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents."
- Many of the major networks have started offering TV shows--both new and classic--for streaming on their own websites. In addition to the shows, many offer interviews with cast and crew and bonus content for their shows.
- Through its iTunes Store, Apple offers users the option of downloading TV shows to their computers. This option lets users view episodes on their computers or by uploading them to their iPods.
