College Education Scholarships for a Future Nurse
- Students who are currently pursuing a nursing degree are eligible to receive a Brain Track nursing scholarship. As of 2011, two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 and $500 are awarded twice a year. Deadlines to apply for the scholarships are March and November.
To receive the awards, student must submit an essay that helps prospective students evaluate whether or not they want to pursue a nursing career. Applicants are judged on the creativity, focus, accuracy, practical value and thoroughness they display in the essays they submit. - Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) Registered Nurse (RN) General Education Scholarships are offered to students who are pursuing their RN license. As of 2011, scholarship recipients receive a $2,500 tuition reimbursement award after they submit their college transcripts showing that they earned at least a 3.0 grade point average.
Recipients must attend college full-time. They are also required to submit an essay that describes a challenging situation the health care industry faces. Additionally, they must submit two letters of recommendation from faculty members with their scholarship application. - The United States Department of Health and Human Services administers the Health Resources and Services Administration Nursing Scholarship Program. To receive the scholarship, after they graduate from college or university, students must work for at least two years at a health care facility that has a shortage of nurses. As of 2011, students receive a monthly stipend of $1,326, which covers their tuition, lab fees, books and clinical supplies. They cannot have federal judgment liens placed on any of their property or accounts. Full-time college attendance is required to receive the scholarship.
- Mary Opal Wolanin Undergraduate Scholarships provide $500 to eligible students who enroll in a gerontology/geriatric nursing program at an accredited college or university. As of 2011, the $500 is available to undergraduate and graduate nursing students. Recipients also get a one-year membership to the National Gerontological Nursing Association. Awards are presented at the National Gerontological Nursing Association's annual convention. Two letters of recommendation from a faculty member and at least a 3.0 grade point average are required to receive the scholarship.
