How to Plan a Winter Sledding Party

Get Ready
1Select an accessible location for your sledding party.

Send out invitations two to three weeks in advance. Indicate on the invitation that guests should bring their own sleds.

Gather enough wood for a bonfire. Set the bonfire up the day before the party.

Purchase or scavenge enough roasting sticks for each guest.

Play Snow Games
1Organize a snowshoe contest, and award the winner a prize.

Divide guests into teams of one adult and three or four children, for a dog sled race (without the dogs.) Each adult will pull a sled full of kids. Award the winning team a prize.

Hold a snowman building contest. Whoever can make a full snowman the fastest wins.

Have a snowball throwing contest. Whoever can throw a snowball the farthest wins a prize.

Hand out birdseed treats for kids to hang on nearby trees. The prize in this game is patching the birds enjoy your gift.
Eat Some Snacks
1Create a makeshift table by packing snow into a long rectangle. Decorate with pine cones and evergreen boughs.

Bring a couple thermoses of hot chocolate and coffee for guests.

Set out platters of hot dogs for roasting.

Place bowls of candy coated chocolates on the table to decorate roasted marshmallows.

Set out other finger foods, such as chips and dip, crudit¨¦s or cheese and crackers.
