How to Avoid Power Struggles With 5-6 Year Olds

If you have a 5 or 6 year old, you know how headstrong they can be.
It's because they know more than you do! They have reached a new milestone in their lives and have realized that they do not necessarily need you to survive.
So maybe that means they do not always have to do what you say.
This creates a constant power struggle between children and parents that makes you want to pull your hair out.
So how do we avoid all the constant bickering and arguing with our children? Is it even possible to keep from fighting all the time when they think they know everything? Sure it is, if you will follow some rules and keep from backing down from them.
Remember, you are the adult here! 1.
Don't ever back down.
Children want you to be soft so they can get away with whatever they want to.
Stand behind your word.
Idle threats do not work.
If you tell little Johnny he can not have candy in the store because he's talking back, do not let him have the candy.
Put up with the fit and the looks long enough and he will remember the next time that he won't get candy if he acts up.
2.
Show your child you are proud of them.
If you are constantly bickering and fighting you tend to lose time to love.
When you child does something right be sure to tell them how great they did.
You do not have to go overboard, just show them that they can do something right when they feel they can't.
3.
Listen to them.
To put it plainly and simply, sometimes you are wrong.
You have to see that.
If a problem arises and your child gets upset about something and you can't seem to quell the situation you should ask why they are upset.
You may be surprised at what you learn.
If you stick to your guns and show your child that no matter what happens you are the boss they will back down and the fights will come fewer and further between.
Do you want to learn exactly how to eliminate your child's out-of-control and defiant behavior without using Punishments, Time-Outs, Behavioral Plans, or Rewards?
