How to Avoid a Bank Inactivity Fee
- 1). Verify with your bank that they have your correct address on file. If they do not have your correct address in their files, any notices of fees they may be charging you will get delivered to the wrong address.
- 2). Read your statements each time you receive them. Often times your bank statement will outline any new policies regarding fees. It is also likely that it will be written somewhere on your statement of any fees that you have been charged.
- 3). Make a list of everywhere that you have a bank account. This is not quite as important if you do all of your banking at one financial institution, but if you bank at numerous banks, keep a list of everywhere that you have an account.
- 4). Talk with a banker about accounts that do not have an inactivity fee. Many banks will offer accounts that do not charge any sort of inactivity fee, ever.
- 5). Go to the bank and talk to someone regarding the fee, if you received a charge and you don't think you should have. Often times the bank will remove the charge for you and better explain their inactivity fee policy with you.
